Vodice is a place located 10 km north of Šibenik in Northern Dalmatia.
Vodice (about 5,000 inhabitants) affects most of Dalmatia travelers. Many coves and picturesque buildings are real rarity. The place is totally tailored on tourism due to narrow space. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Adriatic. Vodice offers plenty of tourist facilities and entertainment. This attractive destination is settled 12km northeast from the town of Sibenik, located along the coast in a large bay. It has an excellent traffic connection with other Adriatic cities and inland as well. For tourists and all hosts there are numerous ferry lines which connects cities and smaller places on island.

How to get to Vodice

It has a good connections with all parts of Croatia.
From the bus station there are buses after Zadar, Split, Varazdin, Ljubljana and Pula.

History of Vodice

Vodice was known in the Roman times as a settlement called Arausa which means water sources which supplied the whole area. It was mentioned for the first time in documents in the 15th ct.
The defense walls from the times of the Turks with the Coric tower are the memory on the past times. In the 15th century the Turkish began to spread an empire and on the following areas. In period of the republic of Venice in Sibenik and the nearby inhabited places, started the built of towers and walls, because of an immediate danger.

Population has daily suffer because of all Turkish attacks.

Sibenik has several times tried to absolve Rakitnicu, but so well-determined structure could not recover. With Citadels, the Turks had to hand the entire surroundings of Murter to Sibenik and all more powerful coastal town. Several times they tried to win and the island of Prvic.

The Vodice is associated with the start of construction of the church of St. Cross the end of today’s hotel Punta, in 1402. Other similar monuments are St.Cross’s church on the former graveyard, built in 1421 and the parish church in the town center built in 1746. On the nearby hill Okit during the Turkish invasions, refugees founded a settlement and on its top was built in 1660 the chapel of Lady of Mercy.

Excursions in the region of Vodice

At the harbor there are daily ferry lines to the islands: Prvic, Zlarin with destination Šibenik.

Besides other facilities there are the daily trips to the Kornati and the Krka waterfalls in the program.
Walk in the neighboring Tribunj with a beautiful old town (on an upstream island – by a bridge to the mainland) and the hills where is lying a church. Here you will feel a fantastic view into the countryside.

In the northern hinterland stands the pilgrimage church of Our Lady of Mount Caramel, which from a far gives you a fantastic view.

Beaches in Vodice

The beaches north of the city near the Hotel Punta are basically made of solid rock and bathing plateau. South of the city near the Olympics and Imperial hotels, are gravel beaches.

The water in Vodice is very clean, as confirmed by the high number of sea shows (do not forget bathing shoes). The beach along the promenade in front of hotels and Imperial Olympic consists of pebbly beach.
