Medulin

Medulin is a famous touristic center and holiday resort. Today is one of the most important touristic places in Istria and has many features to offer. Medulin was once a fishing village until in 60’s got the Auto camp and started to attract more and more tourists. Here you can discover the beautiful mansions designed in the Istrian traditional style. The market place is the center of Medulin, from where bifurcate all the roads in several directions. At the piazza are settled all important buildings, like the municipal office, the post office, the bank and the Konzum market. Going up hill you will come to the amazing Medulin Church settled at the highest point and providing beautiful view.

History of Medulin
Medulin was once a small agricultural and fishing village. The name of the place comes from the old-Roman name Mutila. Medulin also has a rich archaeological finding places. The place has a small church of the Madonna which has the written Glagolitic scripts and Frescoes from 15th century. The first touristic wave happened in the 19th century and is still waving. Today is one of the most famous tourist centers on the indented Istrian coast. In the year 1958 here is opened first tourist board and in the year 1969 that tourist board has developed an opened first tourism company named “Medulinska rivijera”.
What to see in Medulin
In the center of the place Medulin is located the Church holy Agnes. It treasures an ironed cross and a frescoes from 15th century. Here are organized the summer classical concerts. Medulin was inhabited in the prehistory, and findings on the cape Kasteja and on the hill Vrcevan are the evidence of the existence of those nations. There are also discovered the remains of the Castle from the prehistory, an old Roman land houses and the antique graves.
Excursions in the region of Medulin
The splendorous coast is constituted of 25 km and 10 small islets which are uninhabited. The islands can be attained form Medulin, and those are:
- Island Ceja
- Island Levan
- Island Bodulas
- To the island Fenera is not possible to arrive by the ferry because it does not have the port, but it is reachable only by personal boat. On the islands Ceja, Bodulas and Levan are placed small restaurants where you can enjoy your time. Other small islets and bays can be arisen with the taxi boat. Sport and leisure opportunities in Medulin
Sport is very developed part of the tourism in Medulin. There are: five football fields, many other playgrounds for mini golf, tennis, beach volley ball, windsurfing places, sailing, horse back riding, diving and water skiing and more. You can also rent the pedal boat, Jet Ski, diving equipment and motorcycles.

Where to eat in Medulin
Medulin is a town with an excellent gastronomy within the Mediterranean scent. For the modern cuisine lovers Medulin offers fish, meat and traditional Istrian specialties. Medulin is the host of Brodetto festival which is organized in August. Here you can try grilled pilchard at a Fisherman’s summer festival which is organized.
Beaches in Medulin
The coast of the region Medulin is flat and sandy. A special attraction is the group of ten small islets and coastal phenomenon consisted of sandy banks, which are connected to the mainland. The visitors can select between sandy or rocky beaches, abandoned beaches with high rocks or pebbly beaches and bays.
- Bijesca, the sandy beach in Medulin, is recommended to families with a small children. The eastern sandy beach bay belongs to the camping Medulin, while the western part is used by the large hotels.
The very famous is the protected area Kamenjak where you can find numerous coves along the 30km long coastline of the peninsula.
- Banjole – Frašker and Fraškeric are very famous swimming places.
Apart those beaches, Medulin has beach Munte in Premantura, Citinera in Banjole, beach in Pješcana Uvala and campsite Pomer in Pomer.
Nightlife and entertainment in Medulin
Medulin provides excellent nightlife and amusement during the summer. Medulin organizes: the Classical Music Concerts in the St. Agnes Church, The Brass Band concerts, live music on the hotel terraces and many more.
For younger offers the whole night parties. Medulin has some clubs, pubs and night bars like the discotheque ” Imperial ” and ” Dali ” in Medulin,” Joy ” in Premantura and more.
Amusement can also be found on many hotel dance terraces like are Dali, Europa, Hotel Belvedere and dance music on the terraces in camps like Stupice, Runke, Indije…
On the last Sunday in July, is the celebration of St. Jacob, the patron of Medulin and it is the good opportunity to enjoy and see some traditional events.
The amphitheater – Vespasian’s Arena in Pula, is a place where are played all the attractive concerts in Croatia.

- The largest celebration of the municipality is the “night of Medulin”, which takes place always on last Sunday in July and on the day of holy Jakob, the patron of the
Medulin.
- Brodetto Cup: Surely the spirituous smell of the Brodetto will tighten you. It is always prepared on the town’s promenade.
- In July and August are organized sport games: Tennis tournaments, swimming marathon, underwater fish and etc.
- In all places of the municipality Medulin, you can enjoy in concerts of classical music. Most concerts take place in the Medulin church of St. Agnes.
