Brovinje (mening brovi=steers, vinje=grape vines). The area was, in the Feudal System, where domesticated animals were bred and wine vines were cultivated for a lord who owned all the land from the sea to the hills. The country chapel owned by the Abbey was the chapel for the people who were working for the lord. Another chapel,Sv. Matteo, was north of Brovinje, between Skitaca and Mikaljn and was destroyed around the 15th century. Perhaps there was a great earthquake during those times which also damaged the tower (Turan). In 1616 the small chapel of Sv. Lucia was built. The major migration in the 16th century, from Dalmatia, repopulated the devastated Istria from the Austria-Vevice wars.

A historical site is the small country chapel of Sv. Ivan, just 10 minutes walk east of the hamlet. This small chapel was built around the 13th-14th century. The building next to the chapel was used as an Abbey until the mid 16th century. At the rear of this building we see the separate sleepeng quarters of the friars. The reason, for closing, is obscure but it may be due to the wars between Austria and Venice or the plagues which came steadily during those times killing much of the populations in many places. On the right side, looking from the front of the chapel, was a cemetery encircled by a stone wall. Overlookingthe chapel was the tower (turan) which was dismantled by the cement factory. This tower was used for signaling boats which sailed at night in the canal of Rasa. The old writers called the tower “Ivanaz”. About 5 minutes walk is the beach of Voscice.
